Donald K. Johnston was born in Toronto, Ontario. He is a graduate of University of Toronto where he earned his Bachelor of Arts at Victoria College and his L.L.B. from U of T’s Faculty of Law.
He re-located to Welland to join the Nash, Tolmie Law Firm as a partner in 1963. He later became the sole practitioner of Donald Johnston Law Office and continued specializing in real estate, corporate and estate law.
Don has been “serving the public” for over 50 years: as a Deputy Judge in the Court of Ontario (Small Claims); Past Chairman of the Niagara South Board of Education and an elected Trustee; Past-President of the Welland YMCA; and a Past-President of the Welland-Thorold Community Concert Association.
An accomplished athlete and natural leader, Don was twice inducted to University of Toronto’s Sports Hall of Fame; he was on two teams that won the Yates Cup in football and was also a Co-Captain. He later coached the U of T “Baby Blues” team to a winning championship.
